Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a group of really energetic bilingual first graders in a low-income high-needs area. These kids are eager to learn and waiting for some new and exciting ways to learn English, science and math, writing and social studies.

All students need skills that will help them be successful in school and get into college. They must be able to see and understand the material being taught. Often parents can't afford to purchase eye glasses for their little ones so it is hard for them to see the board, demonstrations or books I hold up for read alouds. Any child would benefit from having a life sized projection of what we are learning on the classroom wall.

An ELMO visual projector will open up new doors for us. No one will be able to say, "I can't see the board". They will have the tool that will allow us to get really creative and learn in ways we never thought possible. These students will be able to visit any country or planet via a projection on the wall. They can walk on the moon or write a song about something they learned and sing "idol" style on a stage projected right in our classroom. Those science projects everyone had such a hard time seeing and doing with our limited resources, will now be demonstrated for all to see on the classroom wall. The kids can teach each other by taking turns showing all what they learned with the help of this tool.

We are faced with a recession and dwindling educational funds and resources. You can make a difference in the lives of these first graders. Please show them that they have nothing to fear except not taking advantage of the best education they can get. If I don't have an ELMO, I don't have an important learning tool that might inspire success and creativity in the mind of a child.
