I teach elementary music at a school located on a military base. 98% of the students at the school have one or both parents in the military, and many of the students have a parent deployed.

Our school is unique to our district because of the grade levels we serve. Because of our situation, the class sizes vary from under 20 students to almost 30. I like to have all of my students participating at one time, so I chose to not have chairs in my classroom. The older students are able to stay in a seating arrangement but the younger students have more trouble.

I would love to have a large music carpet for my younger children to sit on. The one that I have chosen has pictures of chairs around the edge, so even though the students are not sitting in real chairs, they will have their own "chair." The carpet will help the students know exactly where they are supposed to sit and will help with classroom management so my students can learn to their maximum potential.

Many people are looking for a way to help out children in military families but are not sure what they can do or how they can help. Many of these children are looking for stability and security which teachers can provide. This project is a way to help children of military families feel safe and secure at school.
