"An unearthly creature who lives in the sewers. An evil car with a mind of its own. A St. Bernard who turns against its owners after being bitten by a vampire bat. These are just a few of the terrors my inner-city seventh graders could encounter when reading from the collection of Stephen King novels that I am requesting.
Who doesn't love the adrenaline rush of a horror novel? This explains why the scary story collections from my classroom library are in constant circulation. While setting up my classroom library for the upcoming school year, I noticed there is a shortage of horror novels. After seeing students in my previous classes borrowing Stephen King novels from the public library, I realized that they are capable and mature enough to read and comprehend his work. Therefore, I would like to enhance my library with a collection of Stephen King novels for them to check out. They will be given time during class to read these books independently, encouraged to read them during their nightly thirty minutes of required reading at home, and taught to respond in their writing journals and give book talks about the books. My students would be thrilled to explore the horror genre with a collection of novels by the "King of Horror." You can make this possible by supporting our project. My students need a collection of twenty-five novels by Stephen King.
