10th grade geography students from the less-affluent part of town rarely get out to enjoy the stunning Colorado scenery. This high-need community could really benefit from funding for equipment and field trips used to explore the great outdoors while learning about how geographic technology is used locally.

Today's students love technology. Utilizing GPS (Global Positioning System) to complete an outdoor educational treasure hunt is a perfect way to get kids excited about geography and learn about their local environment. All that is needed is the technology for students to use.

Resources needed for this project include: - Master Naturalist from the City of Fort Collins (free) - Teacher sponsor (free) - Transportation (free) - GPS technology (requested in this proposal)

Fort Collins is blessed with a location on the "Wild and Scenic" Cache la Poudre River. The City of Fort Collins has a Master Naturalist that has designed a geo-cache search that not only teaches students how to use the GPS technology, but also teaches students about the beautiful Cache la Poudre River. Knowing our environment helps students want to protect it for future generations to enjoy.
