Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach middle school drama / speech grades 6 - 8. Our title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our students struggle at times to succeed; they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment.
We have an after school drama club program where students can participate in 2 full length plays, improv team, speech team and Thespian society for free (no activity fees etc). This program allows students of all ability levels and learning types to play a role in the creative process. Special needs students of all types (gifted, slower learners, etc.) contribute in a way that works best for them.
We try to find a place for any child interested in the performing arts. Not only do we put students on stage, but backstage as well. Students are responsible for just about every aspect of the creative process sound, set, props, costumes, makeup, and LIGHTS are all made/executed by the theater students.

Right now, our lights have two settings – “on” and “off”. We have been given a simple (and wonderful) lighting board and dimming system so that we can better control the lights on the stage, but we do not have any lights to plug into it or any color filters (ge
If we had lights for our dimming system, we could create the amazing designs that are eagerly waiting in the minds of our theatre students. Your donation will make it possible!
