My students need a Nasco Incubator.

I teach a classroom full of second grade investigators. Our classroom is in an urban area where the kids have limited exposure to nature, wildlife and the overall beauty mother nature provides.

There is no "ducking" around budget cuts this year. Our yearly 2nd grade class project of hatching ducklings is the project that the 2nd graders look forward to all year long. Due to budget cuts this program is in jeopardy. We do not have the funds to purchase a new incubator that is needed to successfully raise our ducks. Last year the humidity gauge went crazy and I was unable to keep the humidity at a safe level. As a result, there were 4 ducks I had to rescue (peel and crack the shell because they were to tough for the duckling to crack through.) Unfortunately, only 1 out of the 4 survived. I was very saddened by this as were my students. Had we had an incubator that was working properly, I know they all would have survived.

The incubator I am asking for will not only have a sound humidity switch, but it will also have an automatic egg turner. I will not have to open the incubator and hand turn the eggs it will be done automatically, leaving the temperature and humidity level intact. By having this new incubator in our classroom, it will allow all second graders to gain hands-on experience of raising ducks and the responsibility that comes with raising any animal. In my classroom we read many books on ducks, research the life cycle, and sometimes have guest speakers. But nothing can compare to seeing the excitement on my students faces when they hear the ducks "peep" from inside the egg, or when they witness the movement of the duckling inside the eggs while candling them, and still yet the joy and inquiry that surround the entire classroom when they witness the hatching of a duckling!
