I am a middle school teacher in an urban elementary/middle school school. Not only am I responsible for teaching Literacy during the school day, I have signed on to run an after school Colorguard Flag Squad. This is an exciting opportunity for my students and the school community!

With budget cuts happening all around us, many schools face the most cuts in their extracurricular funding. Since I will be starting our school's first colorguard flag squad, we have no existing supplies to use. Our colorguard squad needs 24 poles and flags to start a successful team. Students at my school pride themselves knowing that they go to a school that invests in their academic and social lives, including after school activities.

Students participating in after-school activities are more likely to build positive peer relationships, and learn to be a part of a team. Being a member of the colorguard will keep students physically active while helping with coordination. Receiving flag poles and flags will help our school community build this positive after school activity.
