Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Have you ever, "Walked Like An Egyptian?" Have you stepped back in time to experience the culture and art of Ancient Egypt? Would you like to help a group of fifth and sixth grade students create their own experiences with the Egyptian culture? In August, I will have the wonderful opportunity to work with fifth and sixth grade students in the resource room of an inner-city school. The school is over 100 years old and all of the children receive free breakfast and lunch. We are located in a high-need community and many of the children attend the before and after-school program that is offered.

Unfortunately, due to drastic budget cuts and inner-city deficits classroom supplies are at an all time low. Unless we find donors like yourselves teachers and students are faced with reaching record high standards with record low budgets! My students are striving to reach the highest academic benchmarks possible and you can help. One of the topics that my students will study is Ancient Egypt. The students will be able to go back in time and learn all about the Egyptian Culture. This is an exciting topic that students enjoy participating in and are able to create many hands-on projects!

The posterboard will be essential for the students to write on. Once they discover what they would like to write about, with my guidance, they can use the posterboard to draw their illustrations on. The culture books will enable my students to do their research and they will be able to share the books with all the other students! The art project will help them to create one of their activities and allow others to actively participate.

Your help will ensure that my students can actively participate in a hands-on project! You will make it possible for my students to share their work and collaborate with their grade-level peers on their projects. This is an extremely important project and your help will make all the difference.
