Literacy Stations Active Learning

My students need room dividers, a carpet, and reading fluency, critical thinking, and grammar materials so that we can set up literacy stations in our class.

I am an eighth grade teacher at a rural school of about 200 low income children. Most of their families work on nurseries or horse farms for minimum wages. Although they have to deal with a lot of adversities, they do have a desire to learn.

I have been teaching for 11 years and the last 3-4 years have been very challenging. Because of the growing technological world, children are engrossed in so many other things. As educators we have to keep up, and I think literacy stations will help keep them actively involved. If we don't keep the children actively involved, we will lose them. Studies have shown that these stations tremendously increase test scores.

Literacy stations are set up to allow the students to practice and review independently what we have covered during whole group instruction. The groups will move to all the stations in the class. I will use the room dividers to divide the stations. The rug will be used for students to sit on and read books when they are finished with the rotation. The reading and language materials that I have requested, will be placed in the stations.

When you fund "Literacy Stations Active Learning", rest assured that you are making a difference in a whole lot of children's lives. I piloted this in my classes last year, and the children loved it. Not only will this years students benefit but future students will also.
