I teach Exploring Life Skills to middle school students (most of you may remember this class as "Home Ec."). Our school, like all in our area is in high-need, and this year we have NO funding for our classroom.
My 8th graders work together each semester to sew a unity quilt, which is unique to each personality. The children pour their hearts, souls and sewing skills into this month long project, and in the end, give the finished quilt to a very deserving sick child who is in the hospital. With the lack of funding this year, and poverty of the area, any supplies that we can get to create this very giving project are helpful.
My students need fabric to create this project. We are asking for some really neat fabrics that the students will be able to personalize for a very special child. This project allows my 8th graders to work together to form this unique unity quilt, while they also learn sewing skills. It serves to better their personal independence skills, while also benefiting the community, as the quilt is donated to Project Linus, which distributes the quilts to very sick and needy children in Raleigh area hospitals.
You are able to make the difference in the lives of so many children through this project. By donating, you are showing my children that there are people in the community that do believe in them. In addition, you are helping a sick child in Raleigh. We have donated two quilts so far, and hope to continue doing so for many years to come; I hope you can be a part of this special experience too!
You donate directly to the teacher or project you care about and see where every dollar you give goes.
