I walked into my new classroom this week and realized my classroom is missing a crucial part of daily structure. My classroom lacks a safe place for students learning. For the past six years my students have done majority of their learning, communicating, and reading on a classroom carpet. I am requesting a Play & Read Activity Carpet. A classroom carpet is much more than just a place to sit. This carpet will introduce and reinforce primary reading skills. This carpet has big picture-coded words on the boarder of the rug. The rug is covered with letters, numbers, safety signals and two giant rulers! Themed carpets like this open up many learning opportunities for students. These carpets allow teachers to make up games that engage students in learning Having an area already set up for learning games saves time for teachers and makes it easy to reinforce concepts. My students will spend countless hours sitting comfortably on the floor reviewing and learning new first grade concepts. Every morning they will start the day by sitting on their rug to complete morning message. They will listen to multiple daily reading while sitting on their classroom carpet. They will listen and watch their classmates share their work while sitting on the carpet. They will do many centers and hours of weekly reading sitting on their classroom carpet. Please help make my classroom complete. My students need a place to sit beside their desk and classroom tables. Please help make my students the most comfortable/smartest students in first grade.
