There are so many teaching opportunities on the Internet! I can take my students, who may never have a chance to leave their hometown, on adventures around the world! We can correspond with experts in the fields of the areas we study, and use our imagination to create our own presentations through use of the computer. Unfortunately, with over half of my students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, many of them are missing vital basic computer skills that they will need in their adult life. I worked with students with special needs at the high school level for 11 years. I know how those students struggled from lacking basic skills. I now have had three year's experience teaching third graders. The materials I'm requesting would be used next year and for many more years to come, enhancing the learning environment within my classroom for many years!

I teach in a system where cuts have been made. We've lost teachers, and even schools! We don't have money for equipment! I knew that, so I spent all summer looking for grant opportunities to buy a Smartboard. A Smartboard projects a computer image on a large screen or whiteboard and students can touch things on the screen to interact with it! It's large enough that everyone can see it and allows teachers to do all the things (and more) that I mentioned above. I had no luck finding a Smartboard for my classroom, but I persevered! I found a way to MAKE one with parts from home! I invested my own time, parts, and money. All I need to make it work is a projector!

With a projector, I could engage all of my students! My special education students could work on their fine motor skills while practicing with the pointer I made to answer questions and guide presentations. My gifted students could create their own presentations and teach the rest of the class about their projects. Creativity of the presentations would only be limited by their imagination!

I could instruct on the homemade Smartboard in whole class, small group, or one-one settings if only I had a projector! These kids deserve the same advantages of those students who each have computers in their homes, and endless learning opportunities. I can show videos on my television, but we all know that's just not the same! If only there were a genie's bottle with "Jeanie" to grant the wish I have for my deserving students. That's why I'm dreaming of Jeanie. Are you willing to open the doors of opportunity and create chances for imaginations to soar to new levels? If so, please help with this projector so my homemade Smartboard can come to life. Thank you so much for your thoughtful consideration of funding my project!
