My school is a high school located in a high-need urban area of New York. Our school has limited funding for additional technology and supplies and our students do not have access to technology at school or at home.
This upcoming school year our school is offering a Journalism course where students will be responsible for producing the school newspaper. Writing and producing a school newspaper will be an excellent opportunity to my students to develop the research, writing, and computer skills that they need for college.
In order to successfully begin our newspaper production, we need supplies and resources. Technology, including three new laptops, a printer, and a digital camera, will allow my students to actually produce a professional newspaper. In addition, reference books will enable them to learn about different story types, how to write effective articles, and other essential newspaper publishing skills that will be useful not only as they continue in their high school career but also in college.
Your donations will allow my students the opportunity to actually publish a real school newspaper that they can be proud of while learning and developing skills that will help them in other classes and in college. Please understand that without your donation we will not have the technology that we need in order to begin publishing our first school newspaper.
