I am currently teaching first grade in a very diverse area. Many of my students face a home life that is unpredictable. I try to create a positive, nurturing environment where my students feel safe and cared for. I am often the encouraging voice they need to begin to believe in themselves.

Our school was fortunate to have gone through some minor refurbishing two years ago. Unfortunately, during the construction many of my bookcases were broken. The district now does not have money to replace them. My class library is currently set up in several plastic boxes/tubs around the classroom.

I would like to organize my class library into the two mobile bookcases. My students will be better able to find the books they want to read, keep the area more organized and also take care of our class books. I teach my students to take pride in their classroom and to value the items we have. These new bookcases will be wonderful additions to our classroom.

You will make it possible for my students to become responsible for their learning environment. First graders come to school on that first day with such excitement in their eyes, only to walk into my classroom to find our class library set up in plastic bins on the floor. Many times the simplest things can make the biggest impacts. I am positive that these bookcases will foster my students' love for reading.
