"I teach 2nd graders on a military base in Texas. At any given time 60 to 80 percent of the students will have one or more parents serving in a hostile environment overseas. We are a Title One School with over 80% on a free and reduced lunch.

Where is my DAD? It is hard to teach my students to know where their parent is with a small map in our textbook. The students love when we pull out our one globe in the classroom because it is just plain fascinating. The kids love to watch it turn and it always sparks so much conversation.

For my students to be able to have the resources at their desks and be able to find not only where Dad is but the Eiffel Tower or the Pyramids in Egypt, will only help spark their interest in our world. These maps and activities will allow my students to develop a desire to learn more about their world.

Please help empower my students with the knowledge that will follow them the rest of their lives. Building background knowledge about our world, can only enrich their lives. Please help make this a reality!! hide»

My students need 42 maps, a globe, Developing Map Skills Book Series, and a Continents of the World Activity Chest. details»

Dear SONIC Drive-In,

I want to thank you so much for your help in purchasing these cool maps.  My students were so excited when they arrived they couldn't wait to look at them.  They immediately wanted to know where Afghanistan and Iraq were because some of their parents are there.  They truly loved being able to see how far their parents are from them.  I can tell these maps will be the focus of many of my learning in the upcoming months.  They are truly mesmerized by them.

Again, thank you so much for helping purchase these much needed supplies that will benefit my current students and all those I will have in the future.

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.

Dear SONIC Drive-In,

Thank you so much for supporting our troops.  I can't wait to tell my class that they will now have the resources to locate many of their parents on the map.  It is hard to teach students whose parents are in Afghanistan where their parents are when I can't show them on a map.
My students will thoroughly enjoy all the activities I have planned using these resources.  Can't wait to get started.  And I can't thank you enough for showing support for the troops and the many families left behind.  It's hard enough for Dad to serve, but being deployed brings on other issues most of us never dream of.

Thanks again for supporting Public Education and our Troops!!

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.
