This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Understanding abstract concepts through writing and art. I teach high school chemistry and physics. For most students, these are difficult subjects that are dreaded. In our school, we have a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students who lack a rigorous academic background and sometimes need a little help to be able to learn how to think. We also have students who have come from other countries and need visual help to grasp these abstract concepts. The materials for these notebooks will help these students bridge the gap between where they are now and where they need to be academically.
Our students here are beginning to understand how important a college education is. These students see there mothers or fathers work very hard for little gain. They want to go to school but do not have the support system or fundamental building blocks.
The AVID program helps students to be able to write and think at a rigorous level. The notebooks teach students how to take notes, study, become organized and also helps them to think at the highest level.
With help from donors like you, my students will begin their journey to college and be able to move past poverty and hopelessness by learning to think at the highest levels. These students are like all children who have dreams of being doctors and engineers and with just a little help, they can achieve those dreams instead of abandoning them.
