Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school educates students in a high-need community. Our students see the school as an oasis,a beacon of light in the darkness of their daily lives. I currently teach 4th grade and will be moving up to the 5th grade with many of my students in September.

My school has previously been able to provide teachers with many supplemental supplies to help us make things in our classroom fun and interesting. Due to recent budget cuts not only did we lose the money for these supplies but also excellent teachers as well. Because of this I am looking for all resources that will help me continue to give my students the same exceptional learning experience they are used to.

I am looking for Time for Kids magazine to promote awareness of national news. Each year that I have taught I have used Time for Kids as a part of our "Fun Friday" activity during social studies. Students love to read the articles and discuss things that are going on in the world. They often speak of recognizing information from the news when they see it on television at home. Keeping abreast of the world news in a fun and age appropriate manner is vital to the development of well rounded students.

This project will allow students to feel like productive members of society. They will be able to boost their reading levels and social awareness. Knowing that their are people that care about the "fun" part of their learning will make all of the difference in their lives.
