I am a middle school math teacher in a high need urban school. I have recently begun to incorporate the use of technology into my lessons thanks to a previous grant that brought me classroom laptops, a smart-board, a scanner and a sound system. Since the acquisition of this technology and my subsequent use of it, my students interest level and learning abilities have drastically improved.

I just completed my first year teaching an iMovie elective class. I was a little apprehensive at first, since I was relatively new to the software; however, once the students began working with the program, they became mesmerized by the process of creating movies from images taken from the internet. The course taught students to interact with technology in a way that tied internet searches, video and sound editing as well as website creation. My purpose in applying for this grant is to allow students to photograph and record video that they will be able to use in their iMovie projects. Ultimately, the images and videos will document the events of the entire school year and be used to create a video yearbook to be distributed during the last week of school.

My classroom would love to receive a high quality digital camera in order to document the highlights, achievements and events that occur over the course of our school year. It will allow students to take an active part in the creative process by controlling what they document and what will be used in their movies.

Perhaps now more than ever, technology education has become one of the most important subjects in our schooling. Students are bombarded with technology daily - through video games, the internet, iPhones and mp3 players. Rather than be passive observers to the technology movement, I seek to empower my students to become the creators of this new medium. Your donation will make that possible!
