My students need 6 hands-on science materials, including a magnetic weather board, bug puzzle, sprout & grow window, frog habitat, life cycle cards and a scents match-up kit.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Thomas's classroom raised $192
This project is fully funded
One word best sums up my students- enthusiastic! My combination Kindergarten & 1st grade class LOVES school, LOVES to read, LOVES to explore their world and "discover" how things work or how animals grow and move; quite simply they LOVE to learn! My students attend an urban, high-need school where most of our families qualify for free & reduced lunch. We have a large population of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students who come to us from all over the world. In our classroom, however, we are learning not to let these types of challenges slow us down, but we are each finding joy in every day and in the adventure of learning!
My students are curious about the world around them, and as young learners they need hands-on experiences to help them more completely understand the life processes of animals and plants, the needs of living things, the weather cycle, and the way our bodies take in information through our senses. However, my school lacks the funds to purchase science equipment that would help me teach these abstract concepts in age-appropriate ways for my young students.
With your kind donations, I will be able to purchase several materials (a frog habitat kit to raise a class frog, a magnetic weather board to record each day's weather, a six sided bug puzzle to compare various insects, a clear window box that will allow us to grow plants and watch their growth from seed to sprout to plant, a kit that will help them learn about their senses...). These will help my children explore and learn more about several major science concepts. These materials will help my students answer these questions: How do animals grow and change? What do plants and animals need to live? How are animals/insects alike and different? What is the weather today? How can we measure/monitor the weather? What are words we can use to describe weather? What is the rain cycle? What is climate? How do our bodies take in information through our senses? All of these materials will allow the children to learn through hands-on activities which are the most appropriate for their age and development.
Your generosity will bring hours upon hours of learning and joy to my Kindergarten & 1st grade students. More importantly you will be helping these children make significant gains in their understanding of life & earth science concepts. These experiences will help my children grow in their appreciation of life and our earth’s natural resources which will help them become better stewards of our earth and better citizens of the world. Thank you for your generosity and help in teaching my students!
