My students need an incubator and a butterfly larvae kit.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Thomas's classroom raised $210
This project is fully funded
One word best sums up my students- enthusiastic! My combination Kindergarten & 1st grade class LOVES school, LOVES to read, LOVES to explore their world and "discover" how things work or how animals grow and move; quite simply they LOVE to learn! My students attend an urban, high-need school where most of our families qualify for free & reduced lunch. We have a large population of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students who come to us from all over the world. In our classroom, however, we are learning not to let these types of challenges slow us down, but we are each finding joy in every day and in the adventure of learning!
My students are curious about the world around them, and as young learners they need hands-on experiences to help them more completely understand the growth cycle and needs that animals have. However, my school lacks the funds to purchase science equipment.
I want to find a way around that obstacle to provide my students the thrill of watching life grow right in front of their eyes. With your help, I will be able to purchase an incubator kit that we will use to hatch chicks. I will be able to show the children the growing chick inside the egg through a process called "candling;" and we will learn about the growth process/development of a baby animal from a single cell to a complex being. I would also like to purchase a butterfly farm kit which would enable us to watch caterpillars progress through their development and metamorphosis so that we can compare and contrast the different ways animals grow and change.
Your generosity will bring hours upon hours of learning and joy to my Kindergarten & 1st grade students. More importantly you will be helping these children make significant gains in their understanding of life science concepts. They will be able to understand the joy and wonder of watching a living thing grow and change and the happiness and responsibilities that come with taking care of another being. These experiences will help my children grow in their appreciation of life and our earth’s natural resources which will help them become better stewards of our earth and better citizens of the world. Thank you for your generosity and help in teaching my students!
