My students need a puppet theater, with books and puppets.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Thomas's classroom raised $155

One word best sums up my students- enthusiastic! My combination Kindergarten & 1st grade class LOVES school, LOVES to read, LOVES to explore their world and "discover" how things work or how animals grow and move; quite simply they LOVE to learn! My students attend an urban, high-need school where most of our families qualify for free & reduced lunch. We have a large population of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students who come to us from all over the world. In our classroom, however, we are learning not to let these types of challenges slow us down, but are finding joy in each day and in the adventure of learning!
My students love literature and want to reread, act out, and talk about their favorite stories constantly. One of their favorite literature activities after we read a book is to act it out with props or simple stick puppets I make with classroom materials. I am limited in materials, and there are no funds at school to purchase puppets or story props that the children could use.
A tabletop puppet theater, puppets, and children's literature would be the perfect addition to my classroom as they would be small, portable, and easy to store. These would be used in lessons, but best of all the children would be able to reenact great pieces of literature, increase their comprehension skills through retelling and their love of reading, improve their language skills through listening and speaking, and express their creativity through drama and creating their own plays and stories.
Your generosity would bring hours upon hours of learning and joy to my Kindergarten & 1st grade students. More importantly you will be helping these children make significant gains in language and communication skills and in their abilities to read and understand literature. What a difference this will make in their young lives and on throughout their educational journey!
