"Helping students become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. I teach first grade in a dual immersion charter school in CA. Our school is comprised of 95% Latino and African-American students all of whom are learning to read, write, and speak academic Spanish. These students have been able to score the same if not higher then similarly populated schools in our district. They have achieved this while at the same time learning a second language.

Since I am at a charter school and have little resources, I have spent countless hours preparing bilingual materials. This has proven difficult because of the lack of Spanish materials out there. Many of the material I have made are specifically gear to the dual immersion program, and although they are good materials, I would love for my students to have experiences with materials other students use in their classroom.

For this project, I have requested a set of Leap Frog materials that are in Spanish. This will give my students the experience of having an interactive book to read and hopefully continue to motivate them to read more. I will use this material for literacy groups where students will be given a story and will have to do a project about the story based on the standard for that week. I will also use the Leap Frogs as motivation for students who are showing exemplary behavior and work.

Your help will motivate my students to continue reading and will allow all students to see how stories can come to life.

My students need a Spanish Literacy Family Involvement Kit and a copy of "Baby va de Compras" to promote biligualism and biliteracy.

Dear Causecast and Alida,
Thank you so much for the materials!!! These materials will open up a whole new world of technology for my students as well as exposing them to literary works that will expand their imagination and their creativity. My students felt so proud when I told them that we were going to be getting new materials because not only I believe in them, but some other very special people do to.
I can't wait to see their faces when they see their new materials.

With gratitude,
Ms. M.
