Even though they're for independent reading during homeroom or for early finishers, they still support important skills such as building reading stamina, expanding vocabulary, and helping students discover books that feel meaningful to them. Most importantly, the stories reflect our students' identities, families, and lived experiences, which is especially powerful at our school, where the majority of students are Latino, low-income, and first-generation. These books help students see themselves in the stories they read, which makes reading more engaging and personal.\r\n\r\nAs a newer teacher, building a classroom library can be a real financial challenge. Many of the books we start with are hand-me-downs, and while appreciated, they often don't capture students' attention and they may not be in the best condition. Your support has filled our shelves with new, high-interest titles that students actually want to read.\r\n\r\nI keep these books on display, and it has been incredible to see students who normally don't pick up a book reach for them immediately! Several have asked to borrow Mexikid and Efren Divided simply because the covers and topics caught their attention. Seeing reluctant readers show genuine curiosity and excitement has been one of the most rewarding parts of this project.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your generosity has created a more engaging, representative, and welcoming reading space for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1757189194734,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-look-like-us-diverse-classro/9555401/","projectTitle":"Books that Look Like Us: Diverse Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ingles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9918497_orig.png?crop=484,484,x0,y30&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754601491123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9918497"},{"teacherId":9789238,"projectId":8853124,"letterContent":"I wanted to sincerely thank you for your generous support in providing the Apple TV for my classroom. It has made an incredible difference in the way I am able to teach, especially with how it seamlessly connects to my laptop and allows me to move freely around the room. Before, I was tethered to my desk with a USB-C cord, but now I can walk through the classroom, engaging with students and offering instant feedback directly at their desks. This flexibility has not only improved the flow of my lessons but also increased student engagement and participation, as I can respond to their questions in real-time without interruption. This is especially important for my English language learners, who are such an important part of my classroom community. I can now ensure they are getting the attention and support they need without being tied to one spot.\r\n\r\nMy students are also thrilled with the new setup! I no longer have to block the board when writing on it, as I can now write directly on my iPad and have it display on the screen for the whole class to see. This small change has made a huge impact on how I interact with my students, making the lesson more dynamic and accessible for everyone, especially for those who are still mastering English. Your contribution has truly enhanced the learning environment, and I am deeply grateful for it.
