Help us get wiki with it but supporting the Wee Wikis: A Collaborative Project!! I am a 4th grade EIP teacher in a Title I school. Students in EIP are performing below grade level and need extra support in a smaller group setting. The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch and reside in single income families.

Recent budget cuts limit the use of technology in the classroom. My students need innovative strategies to capture their attention and make learning meaningful and active. Additionally, the subject of social studies and the writing process is a struggle due to lack of motivation in these areas. Creating a cooperative group project using wikispaces will provide an engaging experience while building interpersonal and writing skills.

The possibilities for student wiki ideas are endless. However, with a manageable template and plain text editing, students will immediately begin construction of their wiki. As a group effort, students will use the mini notebooks to research and share information on a given topic related to social studies GPS. Mini notebooks were chosen due to their low cost and capability. Students will use also use the headsets to create podcasts related to their topic and post these works on their wiki. Parents and community members can provide feedback and assessment of student progress. Wikis provide many potential benefits as a teaching and learning tool. Research supports advancements in collaboration, communication, and connection by applying wiki technology in educational practices. Culminating projects engage students in class work as they document the learning process while sharing and editing wiki pages. Also, students benefit from a reformed model of writing instruction allowing a more proficient and authentic learning experience. Finally, and most importantly, students build interpersonal relationships with classmates and instructor by engaging in constructive communication and active reflection.

By supplying the materials for this project, you will ensure that my students reach a deeper understanding of content to raise them above grade level and exceed expectations!
