I teach Kindergarten in a wonderful community because we have the best kids. Our school is a Title I school and almost all of the children live below normal standards. We have a high need for supplies and materials to help enrich and increase our writing skills.

My students love hands-on materials and the availability of being able to discover things for themselves without me explaining it to them. I do not have the supplies to enrich their lives when we come to the phases of writing.

The Post Office System (which will consist of the working Mailbox and the Post Office Boxes) will help my students when we come to the lessons on writing. I tried to "make" a mailbox, but it didn't last longer than a month due to excessive usage. They absolutely loved writing letters and got excited when it was time for that center. We learn how to write a letter, how to date it, what should go in a letter, where to place the stamp, and how to correctly write on the envelope. The mailbox is used as a shield so the students don't actually think they're working. They see it as having fun and I love that they loved it so much. Your help would top the cake for them.

My kinder babies would really appreciate something in the classroom that is almost as real as the real thing. The idea of having a working post office in the room works for more than writing. It ties into our community theme, working with others in the room (someone will pose as the mailman for a week), sorting, read names on the letters, and so much more. Your help will seal the deal on our journey to master the skill of writing in K. I know they can all do it!
