Introduction to Sewing

My afterschool sewing club needs 7 supplies, including textured paint wands and needles and a foam saber saw.

I want to create an after-school enrichment activity for students who wish to learn how to sew and learn techniques for fabric design and embellishments. Students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be able to sign up for this club at the beginning of the school year and continue throughout the year.

This is the first time at our school that a sewing club has been available. I will need some supplies for students to begin the year and as the year goes on, I hope to have donations from parents and community.

Beginning sewing techniques will be explored. My students will need large sewing needles, embroidery floss, and pre-cut plastic canvas mesh. As students advance, I want to use fabric paints and dyes, as well as beads and buttons to help students express themselves with fabrics.

Initially I want to expose the students to simple sewing techniques. and to make this project possible, I will need a few supplies. I feel, as the students become more involved, and see samples of what they may be able to do in the future, they will bring in their own supplies to accomplish their goals.
