I'm An Old Woman In A Shoe - So Many Children - What Do I Do?

I teach 2 sessions of Kindergarten students with 25 or 26 children in each. This project will impact 50+ students each year.

My 16 year old 6' x 8'rug no longer serves the needs of my class. We all cannot fit on the rug at the same time for important reading instruction, math and other curriculum areas. It is getting crusty and stained. It's worn out.

I have received some Donors Choose cards that I am thrilled to apply to my Donors Choose project. I anticipate that the cards will pay for half of a new rug and I just need a generous donor to pay for the other half.

You will make it possible for me to use the new rug to teach letter and sound recognition throughout the entire year. In the beginnig of our year the Kindergarten children can use it for such basic things as tactile reinforcement of the shapes of letters. At the end of the year it will lead up to children being able to spell sight words and hop to each letter to show the word of the week. It is helpful to autistic as well as regular ed children to visually know their boundaries and stay in one chosen spot. The rug has colorful letters shaped like animals that are a tie-in to our "alpha-fiends" reading program.
