When you can't visit the USA, bring the USA to the classroom! The majority of my students have significant disabilities which limits travel opportunities. So, this summer, we are taking a virtual "vacation" to 5 popular destinations (Yellowstone, New York, Hawaii, Alaska and Philadelphia) to experience the local flavor! We'll learn the facts, watch video about the location, create art projects, make souvenirs and cook the well-known local dishes. Along the way, we'll compile a photo album of our adventures and write travel journals about what we learned.

Who doesn't love to get away and tour the USA? For the majority of my students, that will never happen due to physical limitations. 80% of my students are in wheelchairs or have other significant disabilities which narrows their experiences of the world. My job is to expand their horizons, teach new ideas to my students to broaden their general knowledge and awareness of the world. I do this through activities they can interact with including multimedia presentations and lessons that incorporate all their senses. There's never a dull day!

While we're on our 6 week summer school "virtual vacation" through the US, we'll be making t-shirt souvenirs by using transfer paper, printer ink and ironing on vacation slogans. We'll be taking pictures of the students wearing the leis they make when we "visit" Hawaii and the Hoagies we make and eat when we "visit" Philadelphia. We'll put them in a photo album to show family and friends. Students will experience the "visit" through tastes, music, art projects, stories around the campfire. It will be a vacation with all the fun and no airport hassle!

To make our virtual vacation as real as possible we need your help! My students need to create, interact, and engage in hands-on activities for learning to take place. Therefore, these supplies (printer ink and transfer paper) are crucial for them to experience what it's like to be a traveler. You will be a huge part in putting the FUN in our day when we all yell "Road Trip!".
