At my high needs public high school, there are brilliant artists who very much need the opportunity to express themselves. I teach Mixed Media and Art I for grades 9-12 and am also an international baccalaureate teacher that integrates art with other subject matter (such as Science, English, History as well as relevant topics such as the environment, advertising, architecture, and social issues).

In the classroom we currently have small desks which, for growing teenagers, limits their ability to create large scale or even medium scale paintings and drawings. Art gives self-confidence to teens who feel best when they express themselves freely- art in the art classroom is supposed to allow this to happen! But what kind of art can a teen create when their knees mash into the top of the table??

Since my classroom is small, a solution to this problem would be: standing studio A-frame painting easels. These easels would take away any physical limitations that currently exist for my students. Honestly, I currently have students whose legs cramp up and fall asleep when they sit at the small elementary style desks!!Really!! They are growing teens (the small desks are really meant for English classrooms), and some are even football player sizes. Please help! You will be making a HUGE difference in the art classroom experience of these kids!!

Your help will ensure that my students are given the same / equal resources that other high school students receive at most other schools. Art is for many - the place that confidence can begin- it then thrives- and passes on to other things they try to accomplish! It is true that my students have many challenges ahead of them...with your help, the tools to overcome them will be granted! YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!
