My students need a collection of classic card and board games, including a Favorite Action Games Set, Uno and Skip-Bo.

I teach kindergarten in a moderate poverty level school. In my classroom each year I have a wide variety of students ranging from low income to high income, special ed to regular ed, low ability to high ability and students from many different ethnic backgrounds. In addition to that I am ESL certified, so I frequently have children in my classroom who are from families with limited English speaking abilities.

Playing board and card games was done regularly at my house when I was growing up. Because of the struggles that many parents and kids face today, I don't feel like all of my students get that same opportunity. I have one board game in my classroom right now and my kids love playing it. Watching them play it, I see just how many educational and life skills they are learning. I would like my students to have the opportunity to enjoy and learn from the same games that I enjoyed so much as a child.

The resources I'm requesting are the classic board and card games that many adults played as children. I can picture my class playing games such as Sorry, Trouble, Uno, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders and many more. These games will benefit my students in so many ways. Board and card games teach academic skills such as counting, patterning, sorting, adding and subtracting, problem solving, reading, oral language development, etc and social skills such as taking turns, being a gracious winner or loser and playing fairly. My ultimate goal would be to have a family game night at the beginning of the school year. With this night, parents would be able to come in to help me teach their kids how to play the games that we will use in the classroom and hopefully carry that over to home by playing more games there. I think the connection between home and school would be invaluable.

Your support will encourage learning in a fun and exciting way that is not see in many classrooms. The smiles and the laughter that will come from these games will be huge and heartwarming. The educational and social skills my students will gain from the games will last a lifetime. What a difference we can make!
