My students need 20 copies of the book "The Invention of Hugo Cabret", with 1 audio copy of the same, and 3 additional resource books about inventions.

I teach GATE: gifted and talented education, grades 3-5. These kids are misfits in their regular classroom so they come to me 150 minutes a week to socialize and think in their unique ways. My job is to teach them both cognitive and social skills because they have the potential to be the leaders of the world, but they need encouragement and a support system.

This novel is VERY expensive. Literacy is one of our school district's goals, BUT there are no funds available to support this goal with anything other than basil reading books. Novels, in my opinion, are the best way to teach reading skills.

I am requesting a class set of the book, The Inventions of Hugo Cabret, the book on tape, and 3 resource books about inventions. This book is 530 pages long, but most of it is filled with very detailed illustrations. This is why I my students also need this book on tape to get the author's interpretation of the illustrations. Reading this book will be an introduction into a year long Invention Learning unit of study. This why my students need the other resource books about inventions. The invention of Hugo Cabret is a 530 page novel. Yep that's is right it is HUGE book that only comes in hard cover, but the fun is that most of the book is told in pictures. I bought this book for myself and my students began to show interest. Since I have finished the novel, it has been checked out by most of my students. I have decided that this novel will be AWESOME to introduce 3rd graders to the GATE program. This, of course, will scare them at first because the novel is big. Once they start reading it, they will realize it won't be such a task.

Your support of this project will allow my 3rd graders to start their experience in GATE with quite an accomplishment. This novel will also kick off our year long invention project.
