I teach first grade in a Title 1 school in a high economically depressed rural area. Help me give my children the tools necessary to break this cycle.

15 of my precious children live at or below the national poverty rate. The key to breaking this cycle of poverty is education. The foundation of my children's education is reading. I am desperately trying to assist my children in building their reading skills. One method is to increase their reading fluency, phonemic awareness, and nonsense word reading skills.

I would like to provide my children, with your help, fun-to-use 24 student timers and 20 Hear Myself phones that let children hear themselves talk…so my children can really focus on every sound they say! These phones are perfect for exploring letter sounds, phoneme blending, sound manipulation and more. Currently, I have two of these phones in my room and have found not only do the children beg to use them, but spend their playtime using them reading independently. Individual student timers make it easy to make fluency assessments, conduct timed reading tests, measure computational speed on math quizzes, and more! Children can use these timers to monitor their progress in these areas and see the success they are making.

Please help me help my children. Please help me empower my children to break the cycle of poverty that they are currently in. They are precious 6 year olds that want to learn. They are our future and there is no greater gift than the gift of education...the gift of reading.
