Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Peer Facilitator, which means that I teach all subjects in grades 1 - 4. I work for a low socioeconomic school that is lacking funding and equipment. Our kids do not have the necessary social skills that they need when they come to us. A math club would assist them with learning math and acquiring social skills too.
Our children love games and as one student said "We are at school more than we are at home. So.... Why not make school fun?" Adding math games to our currently existing resources would really help these kiddos!
I need approximately 10 copies of Dominoes, Battleship and Connect Four that I will utilize in 11 after school sessions. These sessions will take place in the spring before TAKS and will focus on approximately twenty struggling learners. I believe that these games and their elevated self esteem from being in a math club will help them become higher achievers. These math games will also improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Your help will ensure that these struggling learners acquire a love for math. It will also allow them to participate in social situations that they do not normally get the opportunity to participate in.
