Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What do all kids love to do? LOL- laugh out loud! I teach second grade in a high poverty, Spanish speaking community. Although my students must overcome many obstacles, they try so hard and they love to read.

My students are challenged daily because of their limited English vocabulary. Many of their parents do not speak English at all. My goal is to motivate my students to read and teach them new vocabulary through reading literature and enrichment activities such as Reader's Theater, illustrated filmstrips, and dioramas. After reading Judy Blume's hilarious story about a mischievous boy named Fudge, my students were laughing out loud and asking for more. They have all made predictions about little Fudge's future adventures and would love to read more about him.

My students would be greatly appreciative to have more of Judy Blume's Fudge books. They are entitled: Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing; Otherwise known as Sheila the Great; Superfudge; Fudge-A-Mania; and Doublefudge. These books will be sure keep my students cracking up.

I believe that, with your help, these funny books will help motivate my students to read more and show them that reading can be a lifelong, enjoyable hobby.
