My students need 10 basic school supplies such as glue, scissors, markers, paper, notebooks, highlighters and pencils. They often come to school without any supplies at all because their families cannot afford these basic supplies. They lack the materials, and therefore can not get work done at home or independently.

I am currently teaching 5th grade Math, Reading, and Social Studies in a high poverty Title 1 Reading and Math school.

My students do not come from backgrounds in which that can buy school supplies year round. My students normally come with a couple used notebooks and folders and very few other supplies beyond that. It is hard to supply every child with all the supplies they need throughout the year.

My students work very hard, but often come to school unprepared. Not because they don't want to but because their families do not have the ability to supply them with everything they need. We need glue, scissors, markers, paper, notebooks, highlighters and pencils. These supplies would take away that anxiety from the students and allow us to use supplies less stringently in the classroom. These materials will support our every day work and our special projects as well.

We work hard at school to supply students with everything they need and teachers will often spend their time and money buying supplies and materials for their students. These materials are vital to elementary class room since we do more hands on and creative projects. These materials will allow us to continue working in an interactive environment.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
