World War II Project Help

My students need a laptop computer.

My ninety-six sixth grade students are curious. They are curious about life, the world around them and about how they fit into this place called school. Many of them do not have any support at home. They don't get to go to the public library. They don't have computers at home. Many don't have enough food to eat or money for school supplies. School is the only time they feel safe, secure and cared for.

Today, one of my boys who has been struggling all year told me that social studies class was his favorite. He is actually putting together a great project. His first work all year! We have started our World War II projects, the students are very excited and love doing the research. They love putting together their products. They are creating power points, animoto videos, movie maker projects, research reports, brochures, posters and/or 3-D display boards. However, the school library must close before the school year ends due to new carpet being installed. We can't gain access to the computer labs because the standardized testing cycle for the year has begun. (Special needs students take computerized tests before the rest of the school population.) To make complicate the situation more, social studies classes are "low man on the totem pole" when it comes to access to the computer labs when they are available because we are not a tested subject. This time of year, the top priority in our building is Reading and Math testing.

I have 2 computers in my room for student use. If I could add one more computer, I could allow more students to work on their projects during class. I have a personal laptop that I am willing to bring which would bring us up to a total of 4 computers for student use.

By donating this small laptop computer, you may help the child who has been bored by social studies all year but has really become interested now that we are studying World War II. Who knows? You may create a life long history buff!
