Don't you want to feed a child who's starving to read at home? I work with and teach 4th grade students. Our students live in a farming community with a high population of migrant families.
Many of our students are migrant or from low income families. Having a nice hardcover book at home to read may not seem like something to get excited about, but for these children it is! They love Shel Silverstein's silly poems and drawings. We only have a few copies available for kids to read or take home. Students are always asking me if they can borrow my copy or take it home to read. I would love to say yes instead of, "Oh I'm sorry I don't have any available right now."
If we could get 25 copies of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein then every child I work with could have their very own copy to read here at school and at home. It would be joyful for them to take their enthusiasm for reading those poems here and take it home. At this level they are required to read so much content. Reading at times can actually be laborious for them. I believe that having these books will be extremely beneficial for my students. It will expose them to more poetry, help them develop fluency and tone with their reading and maybe even aspire some of my students to write their own poetry!
Your donation WILL make it possible for 25 students to take home a hardcover book to enjoy with their family. For many of our students it will be a first.
