What's A Sea Squirt?

My students need a set of preserved specimens for labs in the Animal Kingdom Unit.

I teach biology at a new high school in Kentucky. We were added due to overcrowding at the other three high schools in the district. We literally are starting from scratch. The district does not have money to buy the non-essentials, due to budget cuts at the state level. Without outside donations, our students have to go without items that will enrich their education.

The school has an amazing lab that is separate from the classrooms, and I would love to use it as often as possible. My students are always asking to go into our lab. Unfortunately, I don't have everything that a science lab should have. We should be looking in our microscopes, experimenting, and exploring the world all the time, but we don't have all of the supplies to make biology a truly hands on class. My students need to be able to see what we are studying!

A basic set of preserved animal specimens would be beneficial to my students. It's hard to get students excited about pictures in a book. If they could see a real tapeworm or leech, I think that they would get more out of the lesson. Many of my students have no idea what a rotifer or hydra look like. Help me show them!
