From YouTube to MyTube: Videos to Change the World!

My students need two flip camcorders.

Green light my students to become actors, directors and producers! I teach eleventh grade English in a high-need school in North Carolina.

Many students watch YouTube for informational and entertainment purposes. I want to harness their interest in YouTube to practice important critical thinking and literacy skills. They will make and edit their own videos that address important social, economic, and political topics. Then they will share these videos with the class and publish them to YouTube for the world to see. My students are highly motivated to become movie makers.

I need two PURE Digital Flip Video camcorders so groups of students can film video Public Service Announcements (PSAs). We have all other necessary supplies and software to complete this project. Making PSAs will benefit my students in the following ways: 1. Students will apply knowledge of language structure, media techniques, and genre to create and critique print and non print texts by analyzing other PSAs, storyboarding, scripting, filming, and producing. 2. Students will conduct research by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They will publish their findings. 3. Students will use a variety of technological and informational resources to gather and synthesize data. Creating PSAs will help my students prepare for college by nourishing the collaboration, critical thinking and technological skills often needed in college courses that require students to create final projects that serve as capstones of their learning experiences.
