Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the proud teacher of a wonderful group of third-graders in Northern California. We are a neighborhood school with a diverse population of talented students who thrive on engaging, hands-on lessons and learning opportunities.

Every morning, my students begin their day by grabbing their whiteboards and editing a "Fix-It!" sentence, completing a language review, or dissecting sentences for their grammatical parts. In math, we use our whiteboards to solve word problems in teams, demonstrate understanding of new concepts, and identify solutions to computation problems. We even have the occasional spelling bee on our whiteboards! Due to the daily use of our whiteboards, many have seen a better day and are no longer coming clean. Next year, I will be teaching twice as many kids as I am this year due to the elimination of class-size reduction in our district.

I would like to replace the failing boards and increase the number of boards I have for my future classes by purchasing 35 write and wipe boards from Lakeshore Learning. They are the perfect size for our problems and laps! Whiteboards are an amazing learning tool used in all subject areas throughout the day. They provide an opportunity for students to become actively involved in class lessons, receive immediate feedback, and master skills and concepts quickly. I am able to see who needs help and provide individualized interventions and support immediately, benefits that will be increasingly important next year when I have twice as many kids to reach.

In order to continue the use of whiteboards as a learning tool in my classroom, I need your help! Your kindness and generosity will provide my current and future students with valuable, engaging, and fun learning experiences that may not be possible otherwise.
