Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class is composed of some very reluctant readers. These fourth graders would do anything other than read during independent reading time. One of the problems that perpetuates this attitude is lack of texts in the classroom.

Browsing through the classroom library, it is apparent why these reluctant readers choose not to pick up a book. The books available are tired with worn covers. They are outdated with some books published before they were born. Plus they cannot access them, the books are too hard for them to read. So why would they read?

Supplying my group with weekly copies of news magazines at their reading level will encourage better reading habits. They love the current news, glossy photos and the fact that they CAN read them.

You will help my students become more engaged in reading. You will provide them with tools that will create lifelong learners.
