Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is located in a rural, culturally under served community with 53% free and reduced school lunch. Although we struggle with resources, there is a strong support for student learning from staff and the community.

Our Parent Teacher Organization did some great fundraising to get LCD projectors into every classroom in our school. Priority went to the general classrooms first, and unfortunately they ran out of money before they could outfit the music room. With tough economic times ahead of us it is unlikely that the projector will be funded by our PTO or district any time in the next couple of years. I try to present a classroom rich in technology in order to satisfy all the different types of learners in my classroom.

A projector will help students learn by reinforcing musical learning visually. When teaching keyboards it would allow me to place a video camera onto my hands on the keyboard and project it for the class so they can see where their hands should be. When we study music from other cultures it will allow them to see videos on Youtube of musicians from other cultures actually playing. When we prepare for assessments it will allow students to play multimedia games to reinforce their learning. When I present new learning it will allow me to jazz up my presentations with images and video.

Being such a media driven society it has been shown that visual stimulation greatly increases students ability to learn. Your donation to our projector will greatly increase students ability to acquire musical skills, and will expose them to a world of music that extends beyond the borders of our small community.
