Greetings! Currently I teach 7th grade language arts in a small town public school. I am one of those keep-at-'em teachers always trying to make my students' learning experiences better. According to the district curriculum, my students are expected to know how to video edit and create an advertising media campaign. For years, this did not happen until I decided that my students deserved this experience, just like the students in the surrounding districts. I decided that my students were worth the struggle, and I was up to the challenge.

How do I teach video editing without having student access to the software, video cameras for filming, and DVD burners for sharing their final projects? For years, I couldn't. I knew what my students need to do but couldn't get the funds to make it happen until I devised a three-phase plan. In phase one, I creatively found a way to purchase two video cameras. In phase two, I pestered enough people to get five outdated computers capable of running the Microsoft Movie Maker program. Currently, I use my small flash drive to transfer video clips to each individual non-networked computer so students may edit them. Unfortunately, this takes a great deal of time to completed. Yes! Students are finally able to edit videos, but other than having students stand around the screens, there is not a way to share their productions.

Now, I am on phase three of my project - simplifying the process of transferring video clips and making DVDs. To accomplish this I need a large external hard drive and DVD burner so I may copy a variety of clips at once and then transfer them all to the individual computers. This will still take time, but not as much time as I currently invest into this endeavor. Currently, my students' experience seems similar to running a long race without crossing the finish line. My students are eager to take their projects to the public. I could show their videos to the students in the school, to the public, and at their homes, if we could burn copies to a DVD.

Please help me accomplish this project that I've been working on the past two years. Help me provide opportunities for my students to feel success after investing their time and creativeness into classroom projects. Your donation will foster their sense of accomplishment and help them to develop pride in a well-done project. My students know that students in other districts regularly complete these projects, and they often wonder why they do not. District funds are not available, and this project will not happen without the support of others. Your support will mean a lot to both my students and me.
