Greetings! I am a 7th grade public school language arts teacher striving to teach today's digital natives while surviving yet another round of budget cuts. Please help me to teach the way my students want to learn!

Wanted...Digital camera for my 7th grade digital natives, or in our words, students born in the age of technology. These creative, fast-paced learners crave technology in their learning environment. Unwanted...Black and white worksheets, silent textbooks, and fuzzy pictures due to outdated technology! This includes my old digital camera that stores pictures on a floppy disk and does not take photos that can be enlarged.

My students like to learn by creating podcasts, modifying a wiki page, and studying the world they live in. The curriculum I am required to teach includes media and image editing. A digital camera would empower me to bring these elements to life for my students and allow them to truly understand it, not just "cover it." The pictures they could take, modify, and incorporate into their projects would make the learning experience much more meaningful. We would be able to take pictures at the annual overnight outdoor experience and use them in their podcasts. The students could create print ads to demonstrate their understanding of persuasive advertising tactics aimed at teens. In class, the students could take pictures of class projects and post them on the class's wiki page. The possibilities are endless throughout the year. The case and extra battery would ensure the camera, an absolute treasure, would be well taken care of and available for student use.

Your help is needed to bring the flat, black and white curriculum to life during my students learning experiences. Technology provides so many different experiences in the classroom. I look forward to exploring the use of the camera with my students. You can make it possible for my students to learn and to show what they understand.
