My students need 100 copies of the No Fear Shakespeare version of "The Taming of the Shrew".

I teach sophomore college prep and honors students at a charter school where every student is required to complete A-G requirements for college admission and 57% of our students are economically disadvantaged.

Students are very interested in reading the plays of William Shakespeare, both for the cultural experience as well as the relevant topics in his plays. The obstacle however is the language of the Elizabethan era which can cause students to lose not only their love for the classics, but also their ability to tackle difficult pieces of writing.

I need 100 copies of "No Fear Taming of the Shrew" in order to supply each student with a copy where they can annotate and notate different areas both at school and at home. Since our school is 57% economically disadvantaged, many of the students would not be able to buy their own copy. This particular version allows students to read aloud the original version of the play while easily reading the "translation" in order to understand the vast levels of Shakepeare's writing.

If students are completely reliant on the teacher's explanation, they lose that drive to tackle difficult material. These skills are essential for success in all college curricula; therefore by allowing students access to decipher difficult literature on their own, they are encouraged to develop and utilize these skills throughout their college careers as well as in their future professional endeavors.
