Ever turn a first or second grader loose on the Internet and hope they fare well? In our computer lab, we are in need of software so that we have some resources besides the Internet to offer our students. I am the Computer Technology teacher for Kindergarten through Fifth grade in a low income school district and am finding it very difficult to develop lesson plans for Kindergarten through Second grade that captures and maintains the attention span of the little ones. The Internet offers many wonderful resources, however it is difficult to allow young children the opportunity to access these sites without holding their hand while doing so. There are too many outside links to click on that may take them to "unwanted sites." I am looking for a safer alternative that will offer them more of a "video game" learning environment where I know that they cannot get lost in cyber danger land. Therefore, I am hoping that we can get donated seven sets of the Math Blaster software (14 copies in all) that would serve a two-fold purpose. You see, our test scores were not where they needed to be in math or communication arts last year, so this software would also be allowing the students to work on their math skills without realizing that they are actually learning. By making a donation towards purchasing this software, you will be helping keep my students safe from the alternative of using the Internet, and hopefully increasing their state testing scores.
