My students need 27 readable books at their levels to place into book bags for reading time.

I teach in a 2nd Grade classroom - 73% of families are at or below the poverty level. Quality literature for reading with an adult would be very inspiring to improve our reading scores!

With such a high percentage of families at or below poverty, families have trouble getting by and aren't necessarily able to buy literature for their children to read. At this time I have 22 students - 73% at or below the poverty level and I'd like to send home small backpacks with 2-3 books in them for students to read with an adult. I have rewards for family reading time. I have several books to start this process but they are getting old and are all taped. We read for 30 minutes a day and have a set schedule. On Monday we can read one level easier than our level, On Thursday we read one level more difficult than our level and on the 3 other days we read at our level. I have books sorted into bins with levels labeled on them (colored dots) so students know where they read from. It is said that students should read all 3 levels to improve fluency and comprehension.

If we supply 2-3 books sent home in a special backpack with a reading goal and a reward in sight, students and families will be motivated to read.

Your help will make it possible for families to spend quality time reading books they are excited about reading and improve the number of students excited about reading! I would greatly appreciate this!
