This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 4th and 5th graders and have disabilities ranging from Autism to xxxy syndrome. They come from low income families and our school really doesn't have many resources.
Supplies are running low and when things break they aren't being replaced. We used to have a fridge and microwave, but our microwave no longer works and our fridge barely closes and leaks a lot. The district, however, will not replace it and it limits us a ton as to what we can do.
We need a microwave and microwave oven so that we can continue to cook in the class and teach these students life skills and independence. The students will use these daily to cook and follow recipes and to comply with IEP goals for cooking.
You will make it possible for my students to continue practicing using appliances to cook and this will continue to teach them to be independent. Also, its important that we have snack at school, but it's not provided. My students spend a lot of time on the bus going home and they need to eat a snack before they leave or they get hungry. However, snacks are not provided and the choices that they have currently are so limited.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
