I am a 3rd grade elementary teacher and at my school we pride ourselves on how hard our students work and try inspite of how their home lives may be. Our school has several low-income families and the majority of our student population is on free and reduced lunches. Another interesting fact about our school district is that we are just one of two districts in a small town of about 9,000 people. We are also the district that is going to have the 1st cooperative high school!

3rd grade students are required to write an expository essay on the Illinois standardized test that occurs in the spring. Writing is not an easy topic for students to grasp, but with fun hands-on activities, I have hope that we can really do well on the test when it comes time.

Centers are a fun, hands-on, self teaching way for students to learn and work on skills for different subjects. They allow students to work together, relax, and enjoy the environment, all while they are working diligently on different tasks and assignments that have been laid out for them. I'm hoping that the writing supplies that I have chosen will enhance their writing skills and make the transition to writing an essay easy and less "scary!"

Your help will ensure that my students have the chance to work on their writing skills early on in the year in a fun and relaxing way. My students will greatly appreciate doing these fun activities rather than the same ol' paper pencil routine! :)
