Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am fortunate to teach wonderful elementary students with special needs at a school that is in a high-need neighborhood.

Our school has very limited funding. The small amount of money we have for materials has to be spent on essential learning materials (ex: paper, pencils, etc...) that the students are unable to provide for themselves. There is no money in our budget for enrichment materials such as math manipulatives and educational games that can be used at learning centers.

My students currently need access to math manipulatives and math learning games. The manipulatives will help my students because hands on experiences help them to learn and master math concepts at a quicker rate. The concepts of geometry and fractions will be made more real with the hands on shapes and magnetic fraction pieces. Math games will greatly benefit my students because they will help to make learning math fun for them, help them practice vital social skills while playing with partners, and provide them with engaging activities they can use for independent practice of recently taught math concepts. The areas of multiplication, algebra, and problem solving will all be strengthened with these games. My students have a variety of disabilities that make their academic progress slow and often very frustrating for them. Presenting them with enriching materials such as manipulatives and games provides them with a variety of ways to practice vital math concepts.

Your provision of these enriching math materials will mean the world to my students. It will provide new hands on experiences with math, make learning fun for them, and help ensure their academic success. Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal.
